FAQ
How much does MyDost cost?
Browsing, posting, following and messaging are free. You only pay when you actually book — a hangout fee or hire rate the local sets themselves, plus a commission MyDost adds on top (see "What is the commission?" below). There is no subscription.
What is the commission?
MyDost adds a commission on top of the traveler's price and deducts the same percentage from the local's payout — this funds verification, safety features (SOS, location sharing), and the platform itself. The current rate is shown when you send a request, before you confirm anything.
What does "Verified" actually mean?
Phone verified means they confirmed a real phone number. ID verified (KYC) means MyDost checked a government ID photo and a live selfie, both captured in-app. Verified Guide means an admin approved a guide license where local law requires one. None of these are a guarantee — use your own judgment too.
Is a hangout really never free?
Correct — every hangout carries a small fee the local sets. It's deliberately not free: a free option would make a trust-and-safety travel platform start to look like something else, and MyDost would rather be upfront about that.
When does the local actually get paid?
For paid hire, MyDost holds the traveler's payment until the booking is marked complete — either by both sides, or automatically 48 hours after the service date if nobody raises a dispute. The local then receives their payout, minus commission.
Can I cancel a booking?
Either side can decline a request that's still pending, no questions asked. Once a booking is accepted, cancelling is treated as a trust-and-safety matter handled case by case — repeated late cancellations can affect your standing on the platform.
What if something feels wrong during a meetup?
Turn on "Share my location" on the booking so the other person can see where you are for its duration, use "Check in" to leave a quick okay-timestamp, or hit SOS to alert MyDost's safety team immediately with your emergency contact and who you're meeting. If you're in immediate danger, call local emergency services first.
Do I need to verify just to browse?
No — anyone can create a profile, post, follow and browse freely. Traveler verification is only required to actually request a booking (hangout or hire), and KYC approval is only required to be hired or host a hangout.
When do references become visible?
Once both sides of a completed booking have written one, or automatically 14 days after the first one was submitted — whichever comes first. This means you can write an honest reference without seeing the other person's first.
Why can't I see someone's exact location?
Discovery only ever shows a city area (e.g. "Police Bazar, Shillong"), never an exact location — that's true for everyone, always. Live location sharing is the one exception, and only between the two people on a specific accepted booking, only while it's turned on, and only for that booking's duration.
Is there a minimum age?
Yes — MyDost is for adults 18 and older. KYC verification checks date of birth, and we don't approve anyone under 18.
